  • Embraced history of diversity

For more than a century Consecra Housing Network and its partners, Lifelink Charities and Lifelink Mission Fund have provided quality affordable housing to diverse populations.

Consecra was founded in 1895 by 13 Illinois German immigrant churches that saw the housing of people at society’s margins as a faithful Christian ministry. The first building was fondly known as “the Castle” which was home to boisterous orphans and convalescing seniors. Local churches supported “the Castle” with home canned goods and donations of clothing. Some of the orphans worked at local farms during the summers.

In 1980 Consecra successfully developed and now manages one of HUD’s first 202 senior communities in the nation. This community features expansive public areas, a game room, fitness room, library and hair salon.
